************UPDATE!***********

I am running for the board again, and my seat was going to be up for re-election regardless of current events.  My term was only a one-year term as Region 3 is a new region.

Please vote when you receive your ballots.  Make your voice heard with your vote.
Directors will be seated on June 1st, 2008.

************************************************
On February 28, 2008, I received the following e-mail.  I include this and all the following information for the members in Region 3 so that they may understand why they have had no representation now for almost two months and will not have any elected representation until June 1, 2008.

After careful consideration and much thought, I have concluded that I will be appointing new directors to the seats previously held by you.  I believe this decision to be in the best interest of the association at this time and that, and that alone, is the basis for my making it.  Thank you for your patience in awaiting this decision.  Thank you also for your willingness to serve the ABGA in the capacity of regional director.  Perhaps this will be possible again at some point in the future.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

John Jones

**************************************************************************
I received a call from ABGA President, Dr. John Jones on Monday evening (February 11th) informing me that, due to the opinion of the consulted attorney with regard to dues payment, I (along with nine other Directors) am no longer a BOD member.  For more background on this, please read the text below.
*************************************************************************
A meeting will be held tonight with the remaining BOD who will decide if the rest of us may be reinstated as board members as a group or Dr. Jones may appoint someone to serve in our seat until the next election.
Those who remain on the board are: Coni Ross, Peggy Taylor, Carrie Boyer, Deb Borden, Jan Carlson, Dr. Jones, John Morrow, Troy Veal and Jamie Mitchell.
I will update this information when I find out what the final fate of the majority of the elected board will be.                         -Lisa

I attempted to represent Region 3 at the face-to-face meeting in Irving, Texas on February 2nd & 3rd.  More information regarding
that meeting can be viewed on The Boer Goat group at

Since I did not pay my dues until January 30, I am waiting to learn the status of my membership on the Board of Directors.  ABGA president, Dr. John Jones, has informed board members that we will learn of our status during the conference call on Tuesday, February 12th.  At least until then, I remain your Director.

I apologize for letting my membership down by not paying my dues.
I honestly thought that I actually had until February 29th due to a
membership promotion that awards members incentives if they pay
by that date.  I was unaware I needed to pay by January 1 as a
Director.  No one told me otherwise, until the meeting Sunday
morning.  I went to Irving in good faith that I was a Director in good
standing, ready to act in the best interests of the ABGA.

One of the items we were unable to address which I had placed on the agenda was an educational seminar to be located in Region 3,
like the one held in the New York area this fall.  I think such an
event would be of great benefit to members in the area.  One has
simply to read the online chatgroups to see what a thirst for good
goat knowledge is out there.

Please contact me regarding any changes you would like to see within the ABGA and also things you would like to see happen in our Region as members.  I can also try to answer any ABGA questions Region 3 members have.  If I don't know the answer, I'll try and find it for you.

Regarding the Yahoo chat group for Region 3, the reason it has not been updated is because I was having a "senior moment" (even though I am not considered "senior" by most) and forgot my password for the group, so I will need to re-create one, I guess.
Don't let the lack of a chat group hold everyone back from contacting me, though.  I did not update it often because there were no members so it didn't look like anyone was reading the chat group.

No one should complain about the organization if they are not going to be part of the solution.  I need your feedback as YOUR director to let me know the way in which you feel I should vote.  I welcome your contact and hope to hear from more of my members in 2008.
Please go to my contact page for all the contact info.

Also, I think it is very exciting for our Region that the 2008 National Show will be held in TULSA.  I hear the facilities are very nice, but it won't matter if we don't get enough revenue to cover the bill.  So, PLEASE come and SHOW or just come and WATCH.  There's a lot to learn, much fun to be had and a great time for all.  I hope to see you there!!  If we have a good show in Tulsa, it will help persuade the board we should return to that venue.  We voted in a prior meeting to hold the 2009 Nationals in West Monroe, LA.

I have really enjoyed the chance to serve as the first Director for Region 3.  The first half of my tenure has flown by.  Since this is the first election for this Region, my seat on the board will be up for re-election later in the spring (it was a one-year term).  I feel there is so much left to learn and accomplish, I hope to be re-elected.

Even though being an ABGA board member has taken a lot of time from my family and my goats, I enjoy the opportunity to help promote the Boer breed and the domestic market for meat goats, focusing even more in the future on performance to ensure longevity/profitability of the breed.

With input from the membership, I can do an even better job than all my best efforts alone.

Have a blessed New Year!!!
Lisa
